Dr. Michael Baum is a senior agricultural scientist with 33+ years of experience in plant breeding, biotechnology, and dryland agriculture. Currently Research Team Leader at ICARDA, he leads global breeding programs for cereals and legumes, scaling climate-smart varieties across 100 countries. Formerly Acting Deputy Director General for Research, he spearheaded the Global Dryland Resilient Strategy and ICARDA’s 2030 Strategy. He coordinated the Morocco’s Rainfed Research Platform, mobilized research and development funding, and advanced innovations reaching 10 million farmers worldwide
